La ricerca è stata articolata lungo due filoni principali,entrambi di grande interesse e attualitàper le applicazioni in "life-and-material science". Essi sono:
La prima linea di ricerca è basata sul modello di sbarra elastica molto sottile, descritta dalle equazioni di Khirchhoff. Tali equazioni costituiscono un sistema di equazioni non lineari accoppiate. Esse sono state studiate sia nel caso stazionario che in quello dinamico. I risultati più significativi ottenuti (vedi lista delle pubblicazioni in allegato)comprendono tra gli altri:
La seconda linea di ricerca è basata sulle applicazioni della teoria KTAP ai sistemi complessi viventi. La modellizzazione si riferisce in questo caso all'evoluzione di grandi sistemi costituiti da entitàinteragenti,chiamate particelle attive,caratterizzate dall'abilitàdi esprimere specifiche funzioni, chiamate attività, che sono tipiche della materia vivente. Nonlinear evolution equations of diffusive type are an important class of parabolic PDEs describing a variety of diffusion phenomena widely spread in nature. Indeed, they are proposed as mathematical models in different areas of life and material sciences such as nonlinear heat conduction in polymer systems, filtration in porous media, phase transitions, dynamics of biological groups and biochemistry. We solved several "free" and moving boundary problems for equations belonging to this class, such as for example one and two-phases free boundary problems for the Burgers equations (the so-called Burgers-Stefan problem). We also considered other models interesting for the applications such as the so-called nonlinear heat equation, which is a model for the diffusion of a dopant in a semiconductor, and the nonlinear diffusion-convection equation, which is a well known model for the two phase flow in a porous medium.Our most recent resuls are related (see list of recent publications) to the following aspects:
