OPEN GRID - ABSTRACT

The European Union has funded within the Framework Programs 7 (FP7) the transition from a project-based system to a sustainable pan-European e-Infrastructure, by supporting 'grids' of high-performance computing (HPC) and high-throughput computing (HTC) resources.
Applications deployed come from High Energy Physics, Life Sciences, Earth Sciences (including industrial applications), Astrophysics, and Computational Chemistry.
The project takes care of the current heavy users of the infrastructure coordinating the development and the support of Virtual Research Communities (called Virtual Organizations or VO) currently using the production infrastructure within the European Research Area and encourage other structured user communities onto the infrastructure.

Dr. Alessandro Costantini has took his PhD in Chemistry in 2009 at the University of Perugia, working on the field of Grid Enabled Distributed Computing.
He has strong collaboration with many computer and research centers over Europe and his activity is actually addressed on:

  • Molecular Dynamics of Methane Hydrates, investigation of static and dynamic properties of Methane Hydrates in water and amphiphilic molecules;
  • Concurrent Computing using Grid Infrastructure and implementation of Computational Chemistry suite of codes in the Grid Environment;
  • Workflow modeling and application scenarios using different sets of computational resources.
Actually he is performing his second PhD in Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Perugia and his working for the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN-CNAF) in Bologna.
